Almonds

I hate almonds. I really, truly, with a burning firey passion, hate almonds. They are awful. They are like eating little wood chips.

And yet, they are on every list of healthy foods that athletes should eat.

So, every day, I muscle my way through a 100 calorie bag of raw, unsalted almonds.

I feel like one day I will begin to like them. One day my palate will adjust itself to enjoythe simple, healthy things in life.
Not yet.

  1. Me too! They are terrible! Honestly- I'd prefer more bang for my buck calorie-wise. If I am going to eat 100 extra calories, I want a Reese's cup, peanut butter is totally protein.

  2. Cashews? Pistacios? Mixed nuts, so you get only a few but still get the other excellent health benefits from them all? What? You won't try them? Fail!

  3. Roast them with just a bit of sea salt? So much better. In the way that bacon makes everything better, I think roasting makes everything better.

Seriously. If you want a sample, some can often be found in my desk drawer . . .

  5. Whole almonds aren't so bad. Its the sliced ones that get me. I feel like I'm eating fuckin...toenails.

  6. Huh. I love them. But usually don't eat them raw. Toast them with some salt and spices or something. I'm guessing they lose some benefits if you load them with stuff or buy the flavored ones, but you could jazz them up a bit. I wish I had a hatred for something so high in calories, but I'd take any nut over most candy any day.

  7. Have you tried soaking them? Cover with water, let sit overnight. They will plump up and have an easier to chew texture.
